Live It Now

"Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, today is a gift" - Eleanor Roosevelt

In this auspicious quote, Eleanor Roosevelt eloquently captures the concept of living in the moment.
She understood that we cannot change history, nor can we control tomorrow.

Eleanor Roosevelt learned how to live with both disappointment and triumph,
and she will always be remembered for her stoic attitude in the face of adversity.

Sometimes you can clutch the past so tightly to your chest that it leaves your arms
too full to embrace the present.

Today is the gift you know about. Encourage yourself to use today not to dwell on the past,
nor to plan too far into the future.

Living in the moment involves a profound paradox: You can't pursue it for its benefits.
That's because the expectation of reward launches a future-oriented mindset,
which sabotages the entire process. Instead, you just have to trust that the rewards will come.

Living in the NOW is to think about the present and not concentrate on failures or weaknesses of the past.

Give yourself the gift of living in this moment and moving forward from this space of NOW.

Lead From Within: . Practice the power of the present. Focus on something positive or beautiful
right here and now and breathe it in. Let yourself fully feel it.

Give Where You Go

All of us want to succeed, that goes without saying. But what is success?
According to some, success means a busy and lucrative career, good relationship,
and family life, a great house, exciting vacations, lots of friends
and last but not least, plenty of money.

If asked to give another quick answer to the question of which attributes
contributes to success in our modern business world, some most people
might say, hard work, ambition, and planning.

But are those definitions of success the final statements on the subject?

There is other values you have to acknowledge in your definition of success.

You may be leaving out a critical dimension of what makes us human:
our spiritual side.

Attaining success cannot be all abou you.

You cannot succeed without other people, and being aware of others
and how you interact with them is crucial to success.

This is why it is so important to understand what “giving” means.

Giving to others-not in a monetary sense, but in the sense of giving of yourself,
and even listening-will signal that you feel others are valuable and worth your time.
And this means giving to everyone you come across in your daily life, not just in your business.

When you can give without expecting anything in return,
you have mastered the art of success.

Is it any wonder that the most successful people in the world are masters of giving?
The most successful people are the ones that provide the most value to others.

Deepak Chopra, a pioneer in mind body medicine who has written extensively
about spirituality, says that you have to “make a decision to give”
Make that decision and stick to it, and you will get a huge return on it.
When we help others we build paths for our own success.

Lead From Within: Make a decision to give, wherever you go, to whomever you see.

Who’s life are you currently supporting or helping to grow without gain to you except personal gratification?

Dare To Be Mediocre

Picture_9
How many times have you wanted to try something new, but were afraid to fail?

Most of us usually operate within zero-risk philosophy.

Not Ben Casnocha.

In 2000, he was just another sixth grader trying to pass his technology class. Ben created a piece of Web software that was designed to track citizen complaints for government agencies.

He realized that a current market for his product existed, and at age twelve founded Comcast Inc.

Being twelve has its advantages- most twelve year olds know everything and can do anything. (Just ask my my kids) And they certainly are not worried if their work is not perfect all the time.

Ben Casnocha didn't initially realize the importance of taking risks and working with what was finished instead of what should be perfect. He was too busy being successful. Over time, however, he realized what an advantage it was.

What if he took a chance and discovered that not being perfect was actually good enough to make your business goals work?

It would free up all that time you spend dwelling in the world of self doubt.

Next time you find yourself wanting to pitch a new client or develop a new product, don't worry if it doesn't go exactly as expected.

Lower the bar and just do your best. You may find that being mediocre just might be good enough.

Lead From Within: Dare to be mediocre

Will you try something new today? Let me know.

A New View

Picture_26
If you have ever questioned the way a business does something,
only to be told, "It's always been done this way, you are in good company.

It is premise behind Aristotle's book, Ethics. which adopts "theoretical wisdom
to be a more valuable state of mind than practical wisdom."

To live your life following practical wisdom is to follow fixed rules and work within set
boundaries. This status quo provides a comfortable structure for most individuals.

Doing without thinking or accepting without questioning, however, is limiting.

Aristotle understood that in order to be a leader, you need to think beyond what
is already acceptable convention. Instead, you must entertain radical thinking
or what we he called " a pursuit of theoretical wisdom"

It's the same in the business world. Most technical, social, and modern advances
have come from inquisitive leaders, asking simple questions, " What if...?"

Without questioning the existing rules that govern our human world, there is no hope
for innovation.

Instead of relying on conventional methodology, a true leader thinks of new ways
of viewing everything.

Pursuing theoretical wisdom requires you to gather as much working knowledge
of the boundaries of which you function and to develop your mental ability to analyze
and pursue a new way of looking at the subject matter.

Lead From Within: What are you accepting in your life?
Where in your life can you say What if....?

Do you have a mentor?

Picture_12
To succeed in business, you need to stay motivated and focused.

But that is easier said than done, at some point everyone is going to hit a wall.

That is where a mentor can step in and help out. But, finding a mentor takes
more thought and effort then most people realize.

A good place to start is to find someone whom you admire who shows
an avid interest in you. Don't prematurely choose your mentor. Get to know
a variety of people who can potentially mentor you, which will minimize the
the chance of choosing someone for the wrong reasons.

A magnetic personality is captivating, but too often, you an end up
becoming a groupie, basking in the glow of your mentor's superstar stature.
It is better to pick someone whose thought process and personality mesh
with yours.

A mentor wants you to learn and adapt her philosophies to become your
own.

A mentor should be available for advice and feedback, but not babysitting
your insecurities.

If you pick the right mentor, it is usually the foundation of a lifelong friendship.

Lead From Within: Mentorship is a communication to people about their worth
and potential so clearly that they come to see it in themselves.

Your Success

Picture_9
"Success is focusing the full power of all you are on what you have a burning desire to achieve" ~Wilfred Peterson

While success is within your reach, don't get duped into thinking you have
the proverbial Midas touch. Not everything you create will turn to gold.

Every success you have is the result of thorough research and hard work.
Effort needs to be continuously put into everything you attempt to do.

Getting complacent, skipping a step or two, or thinking you have been
so successful you simply can wing it, is a sure way to almost guarantee future failure.

Yes, success does breed success, but there will always be variables
that are our of your control, affecting your chances of succeeding again.

That's not to say you shouldn't enjoy your successes.
You certainly should. But luck, timing, and a good
business sense are all necessary for every venture to get off the ground.
You need a bit of each, every
time you go to market with your next big thing.

Lead From Within: How will you approach your next venture?
What mindset will you have?

Greek Tragedy

Picture_9
Aeschylus, a revered Greek playwright, often referred to as the founder of tragedy, wrote about the Persian invasion of Greece.
He wrote about the dark days of war and turbulence and the shadows of pain and suffering that accompanied these wars.

Aeschylus knew pain and suffering was not what life was about. He knew to juxtapose them with life- affirming light behind these shadows. He offered a brilliant lesson to those who came to see his plays: Life is not always exactly what you saw.

When you find yourself enmeshed in a modern day Greek tragedy-conflict provided by the cast of characters that is in your office team or someone in middle management who won’t listen to either the bad or good news that you must pass along- or your relationships are not working out the way you want- go past the shadows, weed out the conflict, and find where the light beams through.

Lead From Within: Shadows represent the dark side-they are metaphors for negatives. Yet on the other side of a shadow is light. Shadows could not exist without the light. One does not become enlightened by imagining figures of light, but by making the darkness conscious.

What are you shadows? How can you cast light on your tragedies?

Set Goals For Growth

Ben Franklin set aside time every day to review two questions. In the morning he asked himself, " What good shall I do today? "In the evening he asked, "What good have I done today?"

The greatest achievers in life are people who set goals for themselves and then work hard to reach them.

What they get by reaching the goals is not nearly as important as what they become by reaching them.

Do you want to set goals for yourself? If so, use the following guidelines:

Make the goals attainable: Start with low fences, easily achieved goals, and work your way up.

Make the goals measurable: You will never know when you have achieved a goal if you are not measuring them. Measure your goals and it will give you a sense of accomplishment when you attain them.

Clearly state the goals: When goals have no clear focus, you will have a hard time trying to achieve them. Take clear, focused actions!

Put the goals in writing: When you write your goals down, it makes you more accountable.

It is important to encourage your potential self to review your goals and your progress daily.

Leading From Within: Help yourself today by setting clear and focused goals.
